I loved this\u00a0challenge\u00a0as it was reinventing something\u00a0fairly modern\u00a0and making it outstanding!\u00a0I\u2019d already completed a few projects for Sarah-Jane, so when she called me up and said she was looking to update her current kitchen sofa and was looking for a second one for her extension, I was happy to offer some advice. She had a\u00a0Multiyork\u00a0sofa and she wanted something to match it in a similar style. She\u2019d already had a look around at new and couldn\u2019t find anything quite right, so I went back to her with what I always recommend \u2013 buy second hand!!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
After a quick whirl around Facebook Marketplace, Sarah-Jane found a fabulous\u00a0Multiyork\u00a0loose cover sofa very similar to the style she already had. Not one to mess about, she picked it up the very same day for just \u00a3150. Bargain!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Of course, there was plenty to do.\u00a0For a start, I detested the loose baggy which hadn\u2019t worn or washed well.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Fabric aside, the seat required some attention, so we fixed the broken front rail and replaced the seat padding. Finally, we also added new grey legs with castors to both sofas!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Not only a stunning style choice, but as a hard-wearing velvet it can withstand dogs, kids, spills and hide a million sins. Such a fantastic transformation and best of all\u2026 Another two sofas saved from landfill!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Happy memories for this little number as it was the first piece that launched Very\u00a0Vintique<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This collection of\u00a0one-of-a-kind furniture features the most exquisite fabrics and beautiful detailing. It\u2019s a truly exclusive collection of limited-edition pieces that have the true touch of a designer at their hearts.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This\u00a0chair,\u00a0from the Danish Mid Century modern era,\u00a0was a real treasure. Just look at the sleek teak arms and the beautiful soft curved back.\u00a0The fabric I chose is\u00a0BlackPop\u00a0Neo 13<\/a>.\u00a0In a\u00a0design\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0a wonderful blend of colours and shapes, with connections to\u00a0one of my\u00a0local landmarks, Hampton Court Palace.\u00a0Made\u00a0using\u00a0totally sustainable\u00a0methods,\u00a0the fabric bears all\u00a0the eco credentials that I am so passionate about.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Blackpopvelvets are digitally printed in the UK using environmentally sustainable water-based inks and made from plastic drinking water bottles diverted from landfill. The chair\u00a0was\u00a0finished off with a pop of sherbet velvet piping from the\u00a0Linwood Fabric\u00a0Omega<\/a>\u00a0velvet collection.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This chair\u00a0was\u00a0a total one-off and\u00a0\u2013 no surprises –\u00a0was snapped up almost as soon as it launched online.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n It\u2019s always satisfying\u00a0creating a vision from scratch\u00a0and as\u00a0ingenious transformation go, this one was truly spectacular! As well as having great taste and incredible vision,\u00a0Crissi\u00a0also happens to live a few doors away from\u00a0me\u00a0so this was a collaboration in real close quarters!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Crissi\u00a0had recently had her kitchen and diner renovated and in doing so created this cosy little reading nook under the stairs. A brilliant use of space, she had a carpenter create shelving and storage plus somewhere to sit.\u00a0We\u00a0had loads of fun sampling some bright and bold\u00a0fabrics and\u00a0went for the eye-catching\u00a0Kirkby Design\u00a0Hue<\/a> in orange for the bench cushion itself. For the two large cushions we\u00a0chose\u00a0Clarke & Clarke\u00a0Exotica Passiflora in kingfisher<\/a> and for the bolsters it was Linwood Fabrics\u00a0Omega in grass<\/a> \u2013 that trusty stain-resistant velvet I love.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n For the finishing touch,\u00a0Crissi\u00a0sourced some pumpkin cushions on eBay to tie all the colour choices together and I don\u2019t know about you, but I reckon\u00a0the final result\u00a0is the perfect reading nook! It just goes to show how you can be creative in even the tiniest of spaces with great vision if you have an upholsterer on hand.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Knowing you\u2019ve found the right fabric<\/a> is always a pure joy and this\u00a0modern, but slightly tired\u00a0sofa\u00a0was given a spectacular revamp.\u00a0Les and his wife loved their bold butterfly sofa. But with my professional hat on, I could see where vast improvements could be made.\u00a0This was a\u00a0real case of taking something from the ordinary to the extraordinary.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n For a start, the pattern wasn\u2019t matched\u00a0anywhere\u00a0and the durability of the fabric clearly wasn\u2019t up to scratch \u2013 it had worn right through at the front and the seat was practically threadbare. Not the quality you should be able to expect from a sofa manufacturer.\u00a0I made it my mission to lift the sofa to new heights and make Les and his wife love it even more than the previous version.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Reupholstering any kind of Chesterfield sofa is not a straightforward \u2013 or cheap \u2013 job. However, style points aside, I knew I needed to steer the couple towards a fabric that would be resilient and button beautifully. When we had our video briefing, I spotted a lovely lamp in their dining room, which I picked out as colour inspiration.\u00a0These\u00a0were\u00a0customers\u00a0who\u00a0weren\u2019t afraid of a few bold\u00a0choices\u00a0so I sent through a daring selection of samples and they picked a beauty.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Arley\u00a0House<\/a> Navarra in turquoise is a rich 100% polyester velvet. Gorgeous but also hardwearing, it was a perfect choice! What a transformation. For me, it\u2019s still the bold statement that Les and his wife wanted, but this time around the good looks\u00a0were\u00a0more than just skin deep.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n I may be slightly odd,\u00a0but the more someone doesn\u2019t want to touch an item and reinvent it, the more I do.\u00a0This makeover\u00a0featured on Money\u00a0For\u00a0Nothing<\/a>\u00a0and as anyone who watched the show will know, it was in a terrible state when Jacqui Joseph picked it up at the tip. Fabric came courtesy of the wonderful\u00a0Becca Who<\/a>,\u00a0whose fabric was a dream and made my vision a\u00a0reality. Even better, this total transformed ottoman\u00a0sold in a record\u00a0five\u00a0minutes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n On a personal and poignant note,\u00a0this piece has special memories as I was working on\u00a0it\u00a0during the last few weeks before my Mum passed away.\u00a0I would do a few hours in the workshop in the morning and then go to spend time with my Mum holding her hand knowing the inevitable was very close. She died\u00a0two\u00a0weeks later.
