Dulux has made Bright Skies<\/a> \u2013 a\u00a0pale\u00a0blue \u2013 its 2022 Colour of the Year.\u00a0Said to symbolise the return to freedom and reflect optimism, it\u2019s a real mood booster.\u00a0Light, bright and visually breezy it\u2019s great to use in small spaces and even on a ceiling.\u00a0It\u2019s a very versatile\u00a0shade and\u00a0if you\u2019re thinking of following the trend and painting your walls, you have a whole world of upholstery choices that will work with this. Throw in a pattern, contrast with a bright neon, or stay neutral for a calm, zen space. More than just a colour, it\u2019s a mood and perfect for a fresh start. I\u2019m a fan. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n When the temperatures drop, the design houses love to\u00a0wrap us up with\u00a0a few cosier textures too.\u00a0Velvet is going nowhere, and in fact, many manufacturers are embracing more and more velvet options into their ranges. You know I love it \u2013 practical,\u00a0luxurious\u00a0and increasingly affordable, it wins on every level for me.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n I am loving the irreverent\u00a0revival of\u00a0archive\u00a0patterns\u00a0by big brand such as Sanderson<\/a>.\u00a0Think\u00a0Victorian prints mashed up with\u00a0a bit of retro\u00a070s\u00a0punk\u00a0for\u00a0this super-styled trend that is maximalist on every level.\u00a0In fact, throw in a bit of art deco,\u00a0some\u00a0blowsy\u00a0florals, big colours, strong fabrics\u2026 the message is more is more! Clash patterns, mix things up and\u00a0layer every single element\u00a0in a room.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This is not for the faint-hearted and you will have to be brave about intense colour and pattern. For anyone\u00a0slightly\u00a0frightened\u00a0to venture into these realms,\u00a0it can be\u00a0quite full on.\u00a0For success,\u00a0try to\u00a0keep it\u00a0mainly\u00a0tonal\u00a0and have a theme or a thread that weaves through \u2013 whether that\u2019s one key colour or theme.\u00a0No rules here, just make it as rich and opulent as you dare\u00a0and\u00a0most of all \u2013 have fun!\u00a0Remember my mantra – life\u2019s too short for ordinary furniture.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This is a move away from\u00a0the stripped back, raw\u00a0New York loft\u00a0interpretation of industrial.\u00a0This take on\u00a0exposed brick and\u00a0bare lighting\u00a0is\u00a0countered with a softness which may come from luxe fabrics,\u00a0a\u00a0plush, opulent\u00a0sofa\u00a0or\u00a0some\u00a0deep piled cushions\u00a0that you just want to\u00a0sink into.\u00a0If you still love the industrial look, adding in some softer upholstery will bring the look bang up to date.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Yes!\u00a0Not just reserved for spring, pops of yellow\u00a0are going to be\u00a0popping up\u00a0this autumn \u2013 just\u00a0like daffodils\u00a0– everywhere. Beware, we\u2019re not talking\u00a0huge statement\u00a0walls\u00a0here\u00a0but\u00a0more of\u00a0an\u00a0accent. Think you could live with a bright mustard,\u00a0ochre\u00a0or neon sofa? Why not!\u00a0Otherwise, use it for some scatter\u00a0cushions, a pop of\u00a0piping or\u00a0in\u00a0accessories\u00a0like lampshades and vases.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n And while we\u2019re talking about this season\u2019s hottest shade, how do you feel about finally saying goodbye to grey? I can\u2019t say I\u2019ll be sorry to see the back of it as warm neutrals\u00a0replace\u00a0this over-saturated shade\u00a0\u2013 hooray!\u00a0This season, embrace stone, pebble and taupe as your base but do not go grey!\u00a0No more\u00a0Scandi\u00a0minimalism, it\u2019s more of a modern farmhouse vibe\u00a0that will be winning you style points.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Block printed fabrics, painted furniture and self-styled d\u00e9cor have\u00a0always been around but seem to be on the rise this season.\u00a0A word of caution \u2013 these\u00a0handmade\u00a0touches are great in small doses but don\u2019t go overboard.\u00a0If you\u2019re a dab hand with a pot of paint, try some stencilling, or otherwise, what could be more personalised than reinventing one of your items of furniture with upholstery? \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Nature has\u00a0become as likely to be seen inside our homes as outdoors these past couple of years.\u00a0Sales of houseplants are\u00a0booming,\u00a0botanical prints are here to stay\u00a0and\u00a0we\u2019re seeing a real surge in nature in fabric design too.\u00a0Dreamy floral velvets in fantastical dreamscape designs\u00a0have caught my eye, alongside more classic and elegant interpretations of the English Garden both from Linwood Fabrics<\/a>.\u00a0Whether you\u2019re a nature lover or not, this trend is not going away and\u00a0if you\u2019ve not already chosen it in your home, it\u2019s an easy to live with look that will\u00a0grow on you.
