As we head into\u00a0the cosier months and cooler temperatures,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0a whole new phase of trends destined to warm up the interior design world. Here\u2019s my round-up if you\u2019re looking for some inspiration for your next upholstery project\u2026<\/p>\n

Colour<\/h2>\n

The colour experts at\u00a0Dulux<\/strong>\u00a0have announced their shade of the year for 2021 and it\u2019s a slightly controversial choice. Described as\u00a0\u201ca bolstering shade that connects back to nature and the simple things,\u201d\u00a0Brave Ground is a warm,\u00a0earthy tone that some cynics have dismissed as a \u2018dull brown\u2019 and rather dreary. I quite like it though. I get\u00a0it\u00a0that 2020 has been a tough year and we could all do with a lift for the spirits, but I\u2019m not sure a bright pink or neon yellow is the\u00a0miracle\u00a0response to a Pandemic. You can\u2019t just paint yourself happy with a cheery shade on your wall.<\/p>\n

Instead, I think this warm neutral is easy,\u00a0earthy,\u00a0comforting and a great base for an interior colour palette. It would work so well punctuated with a really bold, patterned fabric or against some more expressive, bright statement colours.\u00a0Give it a go!<\/p>\n

Texture<\/h2>\n

No surprises \u2013 an autumnal mindset is always accompanied by more richly textured fabrics. I\u2019m seeing loads of boucl\u00e9 and fluffy mohair\u2019s, as well as incredible 3-D and ribbed velvets.\u00a0Kirkby Design, <\/strong>in particular, have got this trend spot on with their range of chenille boucl\u00e9 weaves. The viscose-based chenille comes in a tonal mix of colours and I know it\u2019s going to be a super popular choice.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy feeling is that if you want your furniture to wrap you up and give you a hug \u2013 the easiest way is to choose a material that is tactile and touchably irresistible.\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n

There\u2019s a real sense of sensory, touchable warmth to lots of the fabric compositions – a trend I love any time of year. My feeling is that if you want your furniture to wrap you up and give you a hug \u2013 the easiest way is to choose a material that is tactile and\u00a0touchably\u00a0irresistible. All of the above will give you just that AND you\u2019ll be scoring style points too. Bingo!<\/p>\n

Pattern<\/h2>\n

There are a few really interesting things going on in textile design at the moment. Here\u2019s a selection of my favourites\u2026<\/p>\n

Check Please<\/h3>\n

I\u2019m a big fan of the\u00a0Romo<\/strong>\u00a0range and I think they\u2019ve nailed it this season with their decorative, textured weaves. The overall feel is quite Scandi-influenced\u00a0with a much-expected mood of staying at home. I really like the bold and creative use of modern cotton stripes and checks. The Kemble range is understated and very versatile – I can see these co-ordinating scales and repeats being used in multi-purpose rooms such as an open plan kitchen\/diner.<\/p>\n

Back to\u00a0Nature<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s the most plundered point of reference for fabric design, and once again there are some great nature-inspired prints about to launch this season.\u00a0Villa Nova<\/strong> have nailed it with their beautiful new Scene range of wall coverings featuring scenes of rolling landscapes. The accompanying collection of prints, weaves and embroideries have some incredible painterly palettes and designs. Can\u2019t wait to get stuck in with some of these!<\/p>\n

Go Bold<\/h3>\n

Printed velvets are going nowhere. Thank GOODNESS, because you know I\u2019m a massive fan. This season,\u00a0Linwood Fabrics<\/strong>\u00a0have blown me away with their new Kami range.\u00a0A heady mix of intricate pattern and vibrant colour, I think there\u2019s quite an ethnic influence going on here. In any case, it\u2019s a really luxurious little collection, not just because of the sumptuous feel of the fabric, but I just know these prints will look fabulous on the right piece of furniture. Well worth a look.<\/p>\n

Sustainability<\/h2>\n

We\u2019re all quite rightly taking\u00a0more\u00a0accountability\u00a0for our environmental impact and I\u2019m really pleased to see that fabric manufacturers are doing their bit too. It\u2019s not just about saving an old sofa from landfill (although that\u2019s a great place to start); it\u2019s about\u00a0starting to\u00a0make\u00a0conscious decisions about the\u00a0fabrics we choose too.\u00a0Camira<\/strong> fabrics are leading the charge with their\u00a0recycled\u00a0twill weave fabrics\u00a0made from\u00a0recycled plastic bottles that were sourced from the\u00a0Mediterranean sea\u00a0and beaches.<\/p>\n

\"Oceanic<\/p>\n

Equally, the beautifully understated Acara range from\u00a0Romo\u00a0<\/strong>incorporates recycled yarns, but nonetheless has a superbly sophisticated, luxury look and feel. The result is a really good\u00a0soft, cotton plain\u00a0that I can see being contrasted with something more\u00a0adventurous. A great all-rounder.<\/p>\n
